Shadow of Self
This project explores the power of sensory triggers to unlock deep memories across time and place. Whilst using a certain shampoo, the scent gave a missing emotion to memories of middle school in Saudi Arabia—the warmth of the sun through the bathroom window, the lingering chlorine from a post-school swim.Through collages and layered imagery, this project captures these sensory memories, bridging cultures and personal histories, and revealing how our senses connect us to our past in powerful, surreal, and unexpected ways.
Process 01 : Inspiration
This project stems from my experience, exploring how language
and culture shape our thoughts, dreams, and identities.
Series I
The first five collages explore my sensory experiences in the countries I’ve lived in, combining sight, sound,
touch, taste, and smell to reflect how these environments shaped my perception and connection to each culture.
Series II
Building on Series One, the next five collages incorporate graphic elements and my own image to delve deeper into how these sensory memories have shaped my identity, creating a more personal and introspective narrative
of my journey across cultures.
