EDITORIAL
This editorial project explores the connection between historical art and evolving nature by juxtaposing classical artworks with natural textures and botanical forms.
Process 01 : Mood Board
- A. Image Reference: Nature
- B. Image Reference: Historical Art
Through this image reference mood board, I wanted to share why this idea felt so personal to me. It started with a simple observation: the way a painting or sculpture can stop you in your tracks is similar to how a breathtaking view in nature makes you pause and take it all in. I realized that art and nature, though very different in form, share this ability to captivate and connect with us on a human level
Process 02 : Comparison
I began by comparing image references, pairing paintings from different
centuries with natural scenes that evoked similar emotions or themes.
Through these comparisons, it felt as though I was uncovering hidden dialogues between two worlds—one crafted by human hands and the other shaped by the rhythms of nature.
What drew me to this approach was the way both art and nature share an ability to pull us in, sparking a sense of wonder that feels universal and deeply human. While paintings are deliberate, timeless creations that immortalize a moment, nature is ever-changing, alive with movement and transformation. Yet both invite us to pause, reflect, and connect with something larger than ourselves.
Process 03 : Transforming Comparisons into Editorial Design
To bring these comparisons into an editorial format, I focused on using a grid layout to create a cohesive and visually engaging design. The grid allowed me to structure the content in a way that balanced the artistic references with the natural imagery, highlighting their connections while maintaining a clean and organized flow.
The grid became the backbone of the design, giving structure while allowing flexibility. I used it to carefully place the paintings and nature images side by side, creating moments where their parallels could stand out. For some pages, I let a dramatic comparison take up the majority of the space, while on others, I used smaller sections within the grid to include descriptive text or zoomed-in details.
Working with the grid felt a lot like piecing together a puzzle—each element had its place, but the layout still flowed naturally. The balance between structure and creativity mirrored the relationship I found between art and nature, and I wanted the editorial to reflect that same sense of harmony and connection.
Final Outcome
Each spread highlights themes of light, shadow, delicacy,
and grandeur, revealing the timeless resonance between
human creativity and nature's organic beauty.
